Elite Soccer Training in New Jersey

Not a casual program

Elite soccer training at MDS Academy is a pathway, not a single program. It's for players who want more than team practice gives them and are serious about getting better. It runs across Bergen County and Monmouth County, led by coaches whose backgrounds include Premier League academy football, MLS / USL and U.S. Soccer National Teams staff. MDS Premier sits at the top: players are selected, and its next season is coming soon. If you're looking for a casual program, this isn't it.

High performance

What elite training actually trains

Elite training isn't about training harder. It's about training smarter, with higher standards and more intensity. MDS sessions push players in the four areas that decide performance at the top of youth soccer.

01

Technical ability

Top players stay technically clean under pressure, with every touch, pass and movement done with precision. MDS sessions build this with high-repetition technical work in real game situations.

02

Decision making

Reading the game and choosing the right option before the ball arrives separates good players from elite ones. Sessions are set up so players face decisions constantly.

03

Speed of play

The higher the level, the faster the game. MDS training helps players receive, decide and act at a higher tempo, so they play quicker and simpler.

04

Tactical awareness

Positioning, movement, pressing triggers and how to affect the game without the ball, all built through structured tactical exercises.

The pathway

The MDS elite development pathway

Every step is club-neutral, so players stay with their own club the whole way. Here's what's running now and what's coming next.

01

Foundation

Mini Dragons, Dragons Pre-Travel Academy and Skill School build ball mastery, coordination and a love of the game.

02

Futsal

Open now in both counties. More touches per minute than any other format, and in Monmouth County, tournament teams are selected through the program.

03

Technical blocks

Total Training in Bergen County and Total Footskills in Monmouth County: club-neutral supplemental training. Coming soon.

04

ID Clinic & Premier

Players are evaluated by MDS professional coaches at the ID Clinic (coming soon). MDS Premier players are selected through ID clinics, tryouts and club coach recommendations, and play on top of their town travel team. Next season coming soon.

05

Beyond

Summer Select, the International Tour for selected players, and College 360 to help players get in front of college coaches. Coming soon.

The MDS pyramid

One pathway. Every level.

Rec and travel are where players grow at their club. MDS Premier sits on top and runs alongside their travel team, never instead of it. Wherever your player is today, MDS helps them climb.

How MDS helps

  • Coaching sessions for rec programs, at the club's own fields
  • Coach education for volunteer parent coaches
  • Skill School and futsal for extra touches

Every level builds the same four MDS pillars.

How sessions run

Training Methodology

Every MDS session has one clear technical or tactical theme. Nothing is made up on the spot, and every exercise has a purpose.

Sessions move from a warm-up with the ball, to a technical block on the theme, to a phase where players use those skills in game-like conditions, and finally to a competitive game that tests what they've learned. That's how skills from training show up on game day.

Coaches give feedback throughout. Players are expected to take it on board, adjust and show improvement in the same session. That steady feedback is what sets MDS apart from programs that just run drills.

On the pitch

Technical and Tactical Development

Technique and tactics go together. A player with great technique who is tactically lost will struggle at a high level. A tactically smart player who can't execute under pressure will be found out too.

MDS sessions develop both at once. Technical work happens inside tactical situations, so players always learn to use their skills the way the game demands. Over time, this builds real game intelligence: reading situations, seeing play coming and making the right decision calmly.

Receiving and turning in tight spaces under defensive pressure

Combination play in small groups: overlaps, third-man runs, wall passes

Organizing the press and spotting pressing triggers

Transitions from defense to attack and back

Individual and team defensive positioning

Creating and exploiting 2v1 and 3v2 situations

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Elite training raises a player's own ceiling: technical precision, decision making, speed of play and tactical awareness. Team results come second. At MDS Academy it's a pathway, not a single program, and every step is club-neutral, so it adds to your player's club instead of replacing it.
